Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT or tapping)
WHAT EXACTLY IS IT?
Just as the name suggests, it’s tapping on acupoints with your fingertips (like acupuncture, without the needles!) in combination with elements of cognitive and exposure therapy, to relieve stress and negative emotions.
When you’re feeling stressed, tapping sends a calming signal to the brain to deactivate the stress response in the body.
As your body relaxes, your mind becomes open to processing stressful emotions and events because the body’s physiology has shifted into a space of safety.
This creates new neural pathways in the brain as the stressful subject loses its triggering response.
Not only does tapping manage stress by downregulating the nervous system, but ultimately facilitates the awareness to access deep cognitive shifts and inner healing.
HOW CAN IT HELP ME?
Tapping on any stressful issue offers the opportunity to unravel limiting beliefs and conditioned programs that create suffering.
New understandings and realizations emerge when we quiet the mind and process our emotions using the body’s wisdom.
EFT is a somatic technique - meaning while you focus and talk about the issue, you are also using the body’s response system to integrate relief and healing.
This wellness can be received in all areas of your life as you heal from within, whether the presenting issue is emotional or physical in nature.
“When you’re not quite feeling right, let’s try tapping on it!”
WHEN SHOULD I USE IT?
In a pinch, you can use it any time you notice stress kick in!
Say you’re running late and stuck at a train … STRESS KICKS IN!
A few minutes of tapping on the points and breathing deeply is enough to calm you down in that moment.
Tapping doesn’t make the train go faster, but it puts your mind and body at ease until the train has passed.
I start tapping & taking deep breaths anytime I notice that I’m slipping into discomfort. Whether it’s a stressful thought or a stressful situation, tapping is my GO-TO!
It begins the background work to help me feel settled down and clear-minded.
This is a much better state of mind to be able to handle the stressful situation!

These are the 9 basic tapping points
HOW CAN TAPPING HELP ME TO HEAL DEEPER ISSUES?
First and foremost, you are worthy of living your fullest, most authentic version of your True Self !
Choosing to heal your suffering shows your courageous commitment to move through the blocks that have been keeping you stuck.
At a cellular level, your body stores subconscious programs and past trauma in your nervous system. Unprocessed emotions create patterns and behaviors that no longer serve you and divert you from your life’s path.
Self-sabotaging beliefs, chronic pain, and resistance keep you disconnected from your true essence.
These wounded parts of you have been calling for your love and attention … and now you’re here.
Using tapping to support your nervous system creates a safe, nurturing space for those wounds to be met with self-compassion.
Along with your awareness to release unprocessed emotions in your body, tapping helps to reframe the limiting beliefs and misguided meanings we put on our personal stories and memories.
When you choose to be kind and gentle to yourself you change the energy within you.
Releasing the subconscious programs that have held you captive paves the way for true wellness and lasting inner joy!

When we are stressed, our nervous system is dysregulated.
Since its job is to help all parts of the body communicate with each other, when the nervous system is dysregulated it causes an imbalance in the body.
Regulating the nervous system is crucial in restoring harmony and balance in the body.
Tapping is a very effective tool to manage stress and bring your body back to homeostasis.

Clinical EFT has met APA standards as an “efficacious” treatment for several conditions, including anxiety, depression, phobias, and PTSD. (Church et al., 2018b).
Clinical EFT has the largest body of research in psychotherapeutic methods and is demonstrated in over 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Anything that causes suffering (an actual threat OR a perceived threat) activates the body’s stress response.
When you’re in a chronic state of feeling stressed, this reaction in the body can become a physical problem.
Medical research estimates that stress is a factor in up to 90 % of illness and disease.
Not only does tapping reduce cortisol (the stress hormone), but it also improves your immunity!
